What comes next?
As for the future of this group, it
has settled down a lot since the 1960’s.
Their activities aren’t as radical and aren’t as on as big of a scale as
they used to be. By looking at some of
the newer subcultures that are forming, it looks as though the Hipster
subculture might be the new hippies.
They both dress in ways that aren’t common to what everyone else is wearing. Hipsters also have very strong beliefs about
certain political issues, such as the environment. They both believe in peace among people and
achieving their goals through nonviolent protests.
Music has also been a key role in the hipster subculture just like it was in the hippie subculture. There are certain underground music bands that hipsters listen to that is essential for one to be a member of the hipster group. Their ideas on political issues are conveyed through their music just as the hippies were. Many new bands are beginning to form with a new appearance just like in the 1960’s. Many things are similar between the two subcultures which leads me to believe that hipsters are the future hippies.
The hippie subculture still have a future even if they aren’t under the same name. Many of the ideas that hippies possessed are more widely accepted so there is no need for them to be a subculture anymore; they have been molted into popular culture now. People that are a part of the younger generation don’t see hippies as outsiders anymore; they believe the same ethics the hippies were trying to establish. The hippie subculture still lives on strong today even if we don’t realize it. The hipster trend will slowly die out just like the hippies did because their ideas and ethics will soon become accepted by society.
